Once again, the Galiba Children’s Festival offers families an exciting programme at the country’s only permanent amusement park, which has been a centre of fun for generations for six decades.

This year, the Lúdas Matyi-inspired festival in Debrecen invites visitors on an exciting journey through time. On every day of the event, children can travel back to the world of dinosaurs through exciting programmes and interactive games, see how Viking warriors and medieval soldiers fought, put on period costumes at numerous photo points and, for the most curious, see for themselves – with the help of modern technology – what they will look like in 20-30 years.

Dance and music are an essential part of the Galiba Children’s Festival. This year, families are invited to a special musical journey through time. For lovers of modern music, there will be an LED Disco with an evening of fun and games.

As every year, we aim to promote healthy lifestyle. Children will have the opportunity to try out several sports and learn about healthy eating. Last year’s Galiba running bike race, cancelled due to bad weather, will be replaced and applications are now welcome.

The four-day programme of interactive shows, sports programmes, youth concerts, dance, theatre, puppet performances, and craft activities will provide an unforgettable experience for the whole family.

History of the Galiba Children’s Festival

It was born in 2012 as the little brother of the Flower Carnival, where groups of children and urban communities could experience for themselves what it is like to design, build and present their own small flower floats in front of an audience of thousands.

But who is GALIBA?

A goose, but not just any goose! He is from a narrative poem, Lúdas Matyi by Fazekas Mihály, which has a modern version by György Schwajda. According to György Schwajda, “there is no animal more beautiful than a goose”, and he is as skilled at mischief as he is at merriment. Just like children…

Over the past 10 years, the one-day children’s programme has grown into a five-day, colourful children’s and youth festival.
